THE HIMALAYAN APRICOT RIDE

This is an easy and relaxed ride which still takes riders through the most gorgeous terrain that the  Indian Himalayas have to offer. It gives rides a feel of the Himalayas by taking them deep into the  remote areas of this range. It also gives riders the opportunity to ride through various high  altitude passes in a controlled environment.

ITINERARY

Fly from Delhi to Leh. On arrival in Leh, Get familiar with your motorcycles over a short ride after a  personalised session to adjust levers etc according to your liking. Rest and aclamatise.  

Post breakfast depart from Leh headed towards Lamayuru. Lamayuru is set on a peculiar geological formation  which resembles the moonscape! On the way stop at magnetic hill for a cup of tea. We then stop for a  traditional lunch albeit at a hip cafe at Alchi and also visit the famous Alchi Gompa. Continue on to Lamayuru  and end the day after a visit to the Lamayuru Gompa.

Post breakfast depart from Lamayuru headed towards the quaint village of Dah which has a total of about 100  homes only split across 4 hamlets. En-route, cross two beautiful mountain passes namely – Fotu La (13478 ft)  and Hamboting La (13202 ft) where we would savour a packed lunch with spectacular views.  
172 kms / Saddle time – 6 hrs / Max Altitude: 13478 ft 

Post breakfast, depart from Dah headed back towards Leh. This time you get a different perspective of the  valley coming in from the other side. En-route stop for a local lunch. We then check-in to the hotel in Leh and  prepare to enter Nubra Valley by crossing the mighty Khardung La the following day. 
158 kms / Saddle time – 4 hrs

Post breakfast in Leh, we head north-east and move deeper into Nubra Valley. Nubra Valley has been carved  out by fast flowing rivers over the last one million years when the ice age ice began to melt. After a quick stop  at South Pullu, we proceed to climb up and cross over the Khardung Pass (18389 ft). After a quick  photography stop, we then make our way back down through North Pullu and then make a stop for lunch.  Then check-in to the accommodation at Nubra and unwind.  
124 kms / Saddle time – 4 hrs / Max Altitude: 18389 ft 

Post breakfast, we depart from Nubra and ride on towards the Pangong Lake. En-route, we stop and visit the  Disket Gompa. Disket Gompa is the oldest moanestery in Nubra Valley dating back to the 14th century. It has  the iconic 33 metre status of Maitreya Buddha which faces the Shyok river. We then ride further towards  Pangong Tso which is situated at an altitude of 13,862 feet and is 134 km long. It is the world’s highest salt  water lake. Parts of this lake are situated in Tibet and China. India has about 40% of this lake in it’s territory.  We then settle into our accommodation at Pangong. 
211 kms / Saddle time – 6 hrs 

It’s time for the final ride. Post breakfast, we depart from Pangong headed towards Leh. En-route we stop at  Tangtse for tea. We then cross over the Chang Pass (17688 ft) and then ride past Karu military base. Finally  arrive at Leh, bid farewell to your faithful machines and settle into the accommodation for the night.

Post breakfast, we head to the airport to fly back to Delhi.
